Celebrating Secondhand September - Small Business Recommendations

Hello lovely people and HAPPY SECOND HAND SEPTEMBER!

I can’t believe that September has already rolled around again. This year I am diving head first into Second hand September, an amazing challenge and campaign set up by Oxfam which encourages everyone taking part to only shop second hand for the whole month of September.

What could be better than a month filled with only vintage, preloved, reworked, recycled and second hand goodies?

Shopping second hand and sustainably goes hand in hand with Sorrell Jewels and the celebration of preloved rings. I want to show the world how stunning second hand and preloved jewellery can be, and the same can go for everything.

That’s why I’ve compiled together an amazing list of my favourite small businesses that focus on celebrating and reviving vintage and second hand goodies. Make sure you check every single one out, there are some absolute gems in there!

Goose Glitters

First up is @gooseglitters! Run by the beautiful Laura, Goose Glitters is a sparkling heaven of vintage collage art and designs. Using both recycled frames and second hand papers, Laura creates new fantastical, imagined worlds through the art of collage. Head over to her Instagram and make sure to book yourself in a collage workshop. Even on a hangover, it was the most fun and creative way to spend a Sunday morning in London.

You can check out her website here

Foxberry Vintage

Next is the fantastic @foxberryvintage. Jess is the absolute go to for all things vintage homeware, especially for rainbow coloured cutlery. With an amazing eye for beautiful things, the curation and styling of her market tables is ALWAYS NEXT LEVEL. I’ve been lucky enough to meet Jess several times and her knowledge combined with a homeware treasure trove is my idea of heaven.

Maison Spoon

I would have never thought that having something vintage and personalised would be possible, but @maisonspoon is exactly that. Owned by Lucie, Maison Spoon offers preloved vintage spoons with a cheeky twist. With an amazing engraving and personalisation service you can create your dream spoon! These vintage spoons would make the perfect gift for someone special.

Don’t Shop Swap

We all have drawers and rails filled with clothes we love, but just don’t wear anymore. That was why I was so pleased to discover @dontshopswap an amazing platform offering a FREE clothes swapping service. Simply fill up a bag of clothes and send them off and in return you receive ‘coins’ to spend on new (old) clothes! How amazing is that? About a third of my own wardrobe is now from @dontshopswap and I couldn’t recommend it enough.

Hot Tramp Vintage

My new go-to vintage clothing brand is @hottrampvintage. Having met Elizabeth at a recent Pop Up, I was genuinely shocked by how much I loved each and every item of clothing on offer! Hot tramp is all about celebrating pop culture, vintage clothes and feeling HOT. What’s not to love about that? I can’t wait to add more Hot Tramp pieces to my wardrobe ready for autumn this year, make sure you have a browse.

Issey Amore

@isseyamore is my latest and super exciting small business find offering sustainable shopping options. Izzie the designer and owner, creates stunning one of a kind bags using both recycled and reused materials. Every single bag is completely unique, since I’ve had mine I have used it every single day. They are super spacious, funky and of course sustainable!

Blairs Vibe

When I originally joined Depop as Sorrell Jewels, @blairsvibe was one of the first vintage small biz friends I made. Sophie who runs the brand sources the most amazing selection of 90s and 00s style garms. With a groovy, girly vibe all the pieces are stunning. The two tops I’ve brought from Sophie have been worn so many times and they are two of my favourite pieces from my wardrobe. You can check out @blairsvibe on both Depop and Finds.

Happy Sunday Vintage

What could be better than colourful clothing and homeware? The fact that it’s vintage too! This winning combination can be found at the beautiful @happysundayvintage. I originally discovered Bethany and her brand when I brought a vintage striped jumper at a Pop Up. After some Instagram stalking, I fell IN LOVE with the vintage wonderland that is Happy Sunday. You can shop Happy Sunday online and also in her newly launched shop in Nottingham!

Compiling this amazing bunch of vintage inspired brands has got me feeling very excited about this Second Hand September! For me, the best part is how colourful, happy and fun all of these brands are.

If you have any of your own small biz suggestions please add them to the comments below and I will share them over on the Sorrell Jewels Instagram!

Lots of love, Emily xxx
